The mahalaya  paksham this year begins on 2^nd September , 2020 and the Mahalaya Amavasya is  on 17^th  September 2020,

But the navarathri  begins only on 17^th October.2020

This is because there  is Adhika masam according  to Lunar calendar between 18^th September 2020  and  16^th October 2020. It is firmly believed that  no festivals  can be celebrated in the Adhika Masa
